I raise my hat

Aljazeera.Net - Best selling novel banned in Lebanon:
The Lebanese general security has banned the world best-seller The Da Vinci Code after complaints by Christian authorities over references to the private life of Jesus Christ.

Right action, because freedom has limits. Why did not I hear the west crying freedom of expression aganist such a right action form the Lebanese government??????????

Ahhh, not Islam.

In itself, freedom has no limits.

The limits we impose on it are compromises by which we give away part of our freedom in exchange for others doing the same thing so we can live together in peace. These compromises are the result of a continuous process of negotiation, be it obvious or hidden.

One's definition of the limit of his own freedom is the only limit worth talking about. All the rest is nonsense.

When the actions of others, which are bound by their freedom as they define it, conflicts with our interest all we can do is exercise our freedom to counter it; ban, strike, boycott, war; all to negotiate a new equilibrium.

No where in this process can we say that freedom is intrinsically limited.

Saying freedom is limited doesn't make sense to me because if it were those who offense you by their freedom wouldn't have been able to do so in the first place.

So, it's better to say "They did that. We don't like what they did. And we'll stop them from doing it." Without justifying our stand by a presumed quality in freedom.

When I said freedom has limits, I did not mean freedom itself, put how you practice it. In that sense, everyone freedom has certain limits. Of course you can cross it as Freedom has no limit, but the limit is only imposed by common sense, respect, law, .... or force.
